US Singles Chart:
1. Usher featuring Will.I.Am – OMG (last week – 2)
Rammed full of autotune but with a club ready vibe, Usher’s latest hit is back at number one this week, no doubt benefiting from the impressive array of radio play and DJ loving it’s been getting over the past few weeks. Download a taste of Usher for your phone, here.
2. Katy Perry featuring Snoop Dogg – Califronia Gurls (new entry)
An answer to Jay Z’s notorious ‘Empire State Of Mind’, California Gurls is the first single from Katy Perry’s third album, and is resplendent with hefty house and electronic influences, making it arguably the most fashionably constructed track of the year so far. The lyrics, sadly, are a touch less impressive. Can’t have it all! Download Katy Perry ringtones here.
3. B.o.B Featuring Eminem and Haley Williams – Airplanes (last week – 5)
Up two places for the second consecutive week for an artist whose popularity has soared to such an extent this year that he’s almost unrecognisable. The level of popularity probably has a lot to do with why Eminem and Haley Williams both feature on this track, which is his first of two in the top five.
4. B.o.B featuring Bruno Mars – Nothin’ On You (last week – 4)
And his second effort is only one place lower, knocked off third position by B.o.B’s newer single. Nothin’ On You was the breakthrough track, and this marks 16 weeks on the chart for the single. Impressive sales considering the follow up’s already going strong.
5. Taio Cruz featuring Ludacris – Break Your Heart (last week – 4)
Taio Cruz probably fits the lyrics of this song quite well: there’s a guy whose good natured but has no intention of settling down. Said guy goes through numerous women in the course of a bit of fun, and ends up breaking a few hearts along the way. He doesn’t mean to, that’s just how it happens. At least that we he says…
US Albums Chart:
1. Justin Bieber – My World 2.0 (last week – 4)
Write Justin Bieber off, and you can guarantee his army of young fans will have swelled some more by the following week. This young starlet is ignored by most, but idolized by enough people to keep him firmly in the chart reckoning for a long, long time to come. Grab Justin Bieber’s latest ringtones, here.
2. Lady Antebellum – Need You Now (last week – 2)
It seems like Lady Antebellum have been around for a whole lot longer than the 16 weeks they’ve managed on the charts so far, perhaps because their brand of country is so unfamiliar when it comes to sustained periods at the top of the album charts. Fair play to the Tennessee stars, they’ do a great job of making country a little different. Grab some Lady Antebellum ringtones here.
3. The National – High Violet (new entry)
The National have strong similarities to Interpol, and have stormed onto the scene as the latest indie darlings in a long line of must-see bands. Fashionable as they may be, there’s no doubting The National’s credentials, which have everyone from top radio DJs to music critics raving. Watch this space.
4. AC/DC – Iron Man 2 Soundtrack (last week – ![]()
By all accounts the film’s a bit of a special effects fest, lacking any real depth. The same certainly can’t be said for Iron Man’s music, which is created in its entirety over the career of hard rockers AC/DC, introducing an entire new generation to tracks like the pounding ‘For Those About To Rock’. We salute them. Download AC/DC ringtones here.
5. The Dead Weather – Sea Of Cowards (new entry)
Jack White’s latest in a long line of solo projects was always going to sell, and The Dead Weather have done just that. ‘Sea of Cowards’ is a reference to the Internet, and the way it allows people to leave abusive comments without any way of being tracked down.
